Cardboard/Newspaper Collection Drop-off

-Becker Boy Scout Troop 92 invites you to recycle your flattened cardboard, office paper and newspaper.
 
Bring these items to the west side of the Becker Food Pride parking lot Sat., Mar. 1, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
 
Flatten all cardboard.

Freedom Days Committee Kick-Off Meeting 
 
–will be held Tues., Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. at the Becker Community Center. Bring your ideas and join our ‘freedom team’.

Friends Of The Becker Library 
 
–are looking for gently used books, DVD’s and audio books for their book sale April 23-26.  We ask that no magazines, encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest, VHS, damaged books or any books older than 10 years be donated.  These can be brought to the library during regular hours.  All proceeds go towards programs and special needs at the library.

Upcoming Programs Offered By Becker Library
 
Preschool Storytime - March 4. The Becker Public Library is offering a Preschool Storytime for children ages 3 to 6 Tues., March 4, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Storytimes usually involve stories, songs and crafts to build kindergarten readiness in young children. Preschool Storytimes will also take place March 11, 18 and 25.
 
Introduction to the GRRL Digital Library – March 6. The Becker Public Library will have an Introduction to the GRRL Digital Library for all ages  Thurs., March 6, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Learn the basics of the GRRL Digital Library and how to download an eBook to your eReader. Registration is required.

Monticello Cancer Center Offering Free Nutrition Class for Cancer Patients and Survivors
 
–on the second Wednesday of every month at 1 p.m. at the Monticello Cancer Center. 
 
Topics addressed include benefits of good nutrition, managing eating problems during treatment, how to read food labels and how to eat well after cancer treatment ends.

Knitting/Crochet Night
 
– is the first and third Tuesday night of each month at Cafe Pawz, 6:30-8:30 p.m., join as your schedule allows. All ages and levels of yarn lovers welcome.  Working towards creating items to donate locally if you'd like to help.
 
 
G.A.L.A. Meetings
 
G.A.L.A. stands for “Get A Life Again”.  This is a group of widows and widowers.  They meet twice a month to eat out and socialize.  The events are held at different places around the surrounding counties.    There are also different card groups that meet monthly.

DivorceCare For Adults, Teens And Kids
 
DivorceCare is a weekly support group designed to help those recovering from separation or divorce face their challenges and move toward rebuilding their life.  
 
The BIgD and DC4K are auxiliary programs designed just for students grade 6-12 and kids age 4-grade 5.  Mondays at  6:30 p.m. at Riverside Church.

Clearwater-Clear Lake Food Shelf
 
– will be participating in the Minnesota Food Share March Campaign. Be The Hero. Fight Hunger.
 
When you give to our local food shelf during the month of March, Mn Food Share will add their incentive dollars to yours.  Because of our buying power and limited space, financial donations are preferred.  However, donations of food are always accepted.  Bring your donation to the food shelf during our open hours or mail to the address listed below.
 
The Clearwater-Clear Lake Food Shelf Hours: Mon.  5:30-7 p.m., Tues. 9-11 a.m.. and 6-8 p.m., Weds. 3-5 p.m.

Becker Schools PTSA Read-A-Thon Ends February 28
 
-All forms need to be handed in no later than March 5. Becker schools is celebrating “I Love to Read Month”! The students are keeping track of minutes read and will also be collecting pledges which can be on a per minute basis or a flat donation. Checks should be payable to the Becker PTSA, and all donations are tax deductible.
 
Prizes - The top readers and the top fundraisers in each school will win a variety of prizes including gift cards, movie tickets, Airmaxx Passes, value meals, girl bike, boy bike, and many other items. (You are not required to earn pledges in order to qualify for prizes) plus the top 10 classes with the most minutes read/pledges win pizza parties.  Every participant receives a book mark and a chance to win additional prizes.

Dance Team Clinic
 
-The dance team will be holding a dance team clinic for 6th grade Becker girls who are interested in dance and what being a part of the Dazzlers dance team is all about. Sixth grade dance clinic dates are Tues., Mar. 11 and Weds., March 12 at the Middle School. Interested sixth grade girls who are interested should watch for posters and flyers at the Middle School announcing this free dance clinic.

Practices For Auditions For 2014-15 Varsity And JV Dance Teams
 
–will be held Thurs., Mar. 13, Mon., Mar. 18 and Tues., Mar. 19 from 3:15 p.m.-5 p.m.  Auditions will be held from 3:15 p.m.-5 p.m. Weds., Mar. 20. Practices and auditions will be held at the Intermediate School. Starz and Just For Kix dancers are highly encouraged to maximize their middle and high school dance experience by becoming part of the dance team.

-If you or anyone you know is 60 or under and has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, you are welcome to join a newly forming group. Meetings are the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30-8  p.m. at Saron Lutheran Church in Big Lake.
