When the Lioness could no longer deliver birthday flowers to local care center residents in Monticello, we had to think of something different to do for them. WALA!! We began [and will continue] to send birthday cards to those with birthdays each month. In addition to that each resident will be sent a holiday greeting card for every holiday! We found the residents really enjoy getting the additional mail and for some, their only mail.
Our club has been meeting the second Monday of the month [with mask mandate and social distancing] and continues to review upcoming events/projects that can safely be done. We will be highlighting our seniors on MAY DAY by delivering May Baskets to local seniors in Big Lake. Each basket contains items such candies, pens, notebooks, greeting cards, snacks, instant cereals, books, etc for seniors. Our seniors look forward to their 'baskets of treats' on May Day!
Big Lake High School Seniors have completed their applications and essays for scholarships from local organizations. The Lioness Club sponsors two $1000 scholarships to two lucky seniors to help with their educational needs. Seniors interested in applying for the scholarship must write a 100 word essay on what 'Community Service Means to Me'. Essays are carefully chosen by two members of the Lioness Club to reflect the subject matter and announced at graduation ceremonies.
In April the club will elect new officers and in May the District Governor of 5M7 will install those officers. As June rolls around, we await the official word on Spud Fest and its activities. We all hope for a safer and healthier summer for everyone!
