Several Becker youth wrestlers recently completed in the NYWA State tournament in Rochester, MN. The Bulldogs brought down two teams for the team competition  and 22 individuals for the individual competition. 

 

Second-grader Bennett Kujawa won his 54-lb., first-second grade bracket. Fourth-grader Cash Stortz won his third-fourth grade, 72-lb. bracket. Fourth-grader Kaden Nicolas placed second in the third-fourth grade, 64-lb.  bracket. 

 

Eighth-grader Brayden Weber placed second in the seventh-eighth grade, 235-lb. bracket. Eighth-grader Lukas Paulson placed third in the 120-lb., seventh-eighth grade bracket. Fourth-grader Owen Angell placed fifth in the third-fourth grade, 80-lb. bracket.

 

Sixth-grader Tyson Ricker placed sixth in the fifth-sixth grade, 102-lb. bracket. 

 

To wrestle in the individual state tournament, wrestlers needed to place first-third in region competition.

 

Wrestlers who placed fourth-sixth at regions could then wrestle in the state invitational tournament.

 

Kindergartner Eli Humphrey placed second in his invitational bracket. First-grader Jacob Williams took second place. Fifth-grader Drew May placed second in his invite bracket. 

 

The K-sixth grade team won its pool with its only loss of the tournament coming from Albert Lea, who placed second overall. In their initial bracket, the Becker team lost to Albert Lea 34-26. 

 

The Bulldogs then beat Deer River, 53-18 and GMLOS, 48-22 to place fifth in their bracket. In pool play, the Bulldogs beat Dover Eyota, 41-22 and Adrian, 43-24 to win the pool.

 

The K-6 youth team members include Jacob Williams, Odin Duncombe, Nick Kilian, Bennett Kujawa, Boston Kuschel, Blayne Kuschel, Isaac Daluge, Tyler Hall, Landen Kujawa, Kaden Nicolas, Cash Stortz, Owen Angell, Drew May, Kaden Rish, Ethan Duncombe, Tyson Ricker, Adam Jurek, Dylan Weber, Cody Schmidt and Lance Lysdal. 

 

The Bulldogs are coached by Luke Fox, Tim Kujawa, Matt Kuschel and Mike Duncombe.

 

The seventh-eighth grade team beat Minnewaska, 22-21, ACGC, 18-18 in bracket play before losing to Northfield, 31-18. In pool play, they beat Rochester Mayo, 25-17 and then lost to GMLOS, 26-19 to place second in their pool.

 

The seventh-eighth grade wrestlers include Ethan Anderson, Mason Doucette, Tyson Ricker, Lukas Paulson, Bennett Edling, Luke Eigen, Brayden Weber, Kylen Rish, Caden Dewall, Ethan Duncombe, Liam Jenkins, Lakken Braun, and Bryce Kuschel. The Bulldogs were coached by Ryan DeWall, Mike Duncombe and Jayme Doucette.
