SENIOR CODY FERRIS took home the second place title at 145-lbs. when he beat Drew Maher of BOLD and Brady Mehr of Kimball before losing to Nick Mergen of Albany in the championship match.

Wrestlers Do Well At Final Tournament Before Sections

The Becker boys wrestling team took third last Friday in the Albany Purple Pride Tournament.
 
The Bulldogs had five wrestlers finish in second place, two in third place, one in fourth, one in fifth and two in sixth.
 
Logan Jurek (12-15) wrestled at 106-lbs. and lost his first round match to Konrad Blood (18-7) of Mora 7-4. He then lost to Isaac Mattson (0-7) of Osakis, 8-2 to finish in fourth place.
 
Brock Luthens (29-3) of Hutchinson was the champion.
 
At 113-lbs., Josh Lumley (18-6) won his first round match, 8-0 over Michael Donnay (10-18) of Kimball. Lumley then lost to eventual champion Trenton Coyer (23-6) of Osakis in the second round, 11-6. Lumley then captured third place by beating Thomas Hischer (19-2) of Mora by a 6-3 score.
 
Kevin Andres (8-6) took the mat at 120-lbs. and won a 9-4 decision over Triston Stoetzle (3-5) of Osakis, 9-4, then lost to Ethan Pracher (14-9) of Mora in the championship match by fall at 56 seconds.
 
At 120-lbs., Colten Demant (11-15) lost his first round match to Riley Drew (24-6) of Hutchinson in a fall at 1:34 (who went on to win the championship), then beat Joseph Donnay (10-23) of Kimball, 7-2 and Mason Sanborn (11-8) of Mora in a major decision (14-5) to take home fifth place.
 
At 132-lbs., Blake Paulson (12-5) lost to Leo Kerfield (0-0) of Albany by a 6-1 score. Paulson then lost to Jayden Mackendanz (14-19) of Hutchinson by a 3-2 score.
Caleb Vekved (23-5) pinned Garret Sunder (10-23) of Osakis in his first round, 138-lb. match at 5;21, then did the same to Kevin Brockner (20-8) of Mora at 3:08 to advance to the championship match. Vekved lost a close, 5-2 match to undefeated Quinten Berres (33-0) of Kimball to gain second place.
 
At 145-lbs., Cody Ferris (24-7) pinned Drew Maher (15-17) of BOLD at 1:31, then won by default over Brady Mehr (26-7) of Kimball to gain the championship match. Ferris lost to Nick Mergen (30-1) of Albany to capture second place.
 
Josiah Borst (8-6) faced off against Reece Stephens (4-5) of Albany in the first round and came away with a 9-6 victory at 152-lbs. Borst then pinned Adam Theis (0-3) of Kimball at 1:16 to make the championship match against Brandon Lucking of Mora. Lucking (25-3) beat Borst, 8-2 to give Borst second place.
 
At 160-lbs., Frankie Baker (6-16) lost his first round match to Ethan Link (15-16) of Hutchinson by a 6-3 score. Baker then lost to Jake Rauenhorst (13-17) of BOLD by a fall at 5:18 to capture sixth place.
 
Tanner Schreifels (22-5) of Kimball won the championship.
 
Trevor Goodrich (17-11) was pinned at 4:50 of his 195-lb. first  round match against Martin Hanson (11-5) of St. Cloud Apollo. Goodrich then lost to Austin Einerson (13-10) of BOLD in a 12-6 decision to gain sixth place.
 
Chris Weberg (20-8) beat Josh Bohnen (19-7) of Mora by a 5-2 score at 220-lbs., then lost to Manuel Garcia (26-0) of BOLD by a tight, 2-1 score to take home the second place prize.
At 285-lbs., Casey Vesledahl (13-4) lost a 5-2 decision to Brady Beier (29-0) of Mora before pinning Zach Foesch (20-9) of BOLD at 48 seconds of the third place match.
 
Hutchinson took home the team title with 168 points followed by Mora with 166.5, Becker with 128, Kimball with 117, Albany with 112.5, Osakis with 91, St. Cloud Apollo with 85.5 and BOLD with 82.
 
Next up for the 14-9, #5-seeded Bulldogs is 6AA Section play Thursday in Annandale against the #4-seeded New London-Spicer (12-7) Wildcats at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to wrestle Friday in Zimmerman against the winner of the #1-seeded Annandale Cardinals (21-3) and the in-play winner of Zimmerman/Monticello. The Friday match begins at 6 p.m. with the winner advancing to the championship match later that evening at 8 p.m.
 
Individual Section 6AA wrestling starts next Friday at Dassel-Cokato and wrestlers and opponents are yet to be determined.
