The Becker Bulldog girls swimming and diving teams are full of excitement not only for the start of their 2014 season, but excited for the fact they will finally be hosting their own meets in their new state-of-the-art swimming and diving facility.
Head Coach Tina Tamm has been waiting a long time for the realization of the project.
“I don't know if I can explain the excitement level I have for finally being able to host a meet,” she said. “I have been waiting a long time for this day - not only for the program - but for the girls. They will finally be able to have more friends and family members come to see them compete when they are at home.”
Tamm says competing in your home pool has a whole different feel to it than traveling to another pool.
“The home opener (Sept. 16) should be a great night,” Tamm said.
2010 was the last season Becker held a home meet and that was without the starting blocks. The last time they held an official home meet was 2009.
Tamm is in her 15th year as head coach and she named Jade Erson, Paige Roesler, Emma Lefebvre and Andrea Molus as captains for 2014.
“The strongest area of our team is that there are a number of girls that can swim and gain points for the team, in any event that I put them in,” Tamm said.
“This gives us the advantage against some teams because they can't predict what events these girls will be entered in on meet day.”
Tamm says her dive team — coached by Kayla McCall — will be young but good. She says the girls will continue to get better over the next few years.
“We expect them to do well in all the dual meets and contribute points to the overall score for the meet,” she said.
