Prom stepping down as BL wrestling coach

(The following article was submitted to the Patriot by Loren Holthaus, Head Baseball Coach at Big Lake High School.)

Ryan Prom will be stepping down as Big Lake wrestling Head Coach at the conclusion of this season after coaching for nearly a quarter of a century.

Coach Prom was recognized for his contributions to Big Lake wrestling at their home meet Feb. 6 against ROCORI.

Prom started coaching in Big Lake at the junior high level back in 2001. He moved up to JV coach and was part of the first boys team in Big Lake history to reach the state tournament.

He then became the head coach in 2016 and has been running a quality program ever since.

His varsity record at the time this article was written is129-77. He coached 30 state entrants with 18 being state place winners, including a three time state champion. He is now gearing up his team for end of season tournament time.

Prom is not only an important part of the Big Lake wrestling community, but he is an asset to the Big Lake school district as a teacher, three sport coach, and mentor. His leadership skills are evident in his coaching staff. All his coaches down to the junior high coach are former Big Lake wrestlers. He has made a great impact on the wrestling program in Big Lake and he will truly be missed.
