BECKER’S UNMISTAKABLE HEIGHT ADVANTAGE was a key factor in their big win in the playoffs over Monticello Tuesday at home. Above, Becker’s Alex Johnson and Kally Anderson battled several Magic players including Amber Okerson (#34), Katie Fisette (#23) and Melissa Schmitt (#33) for a rebound in Tuesday’s game.
JUNIOR GUARD ALEXA HANOWSKI was one of four Bulldog players who scored in double digits as Becker crushed the Monticello Magic in the first round of the Section 5AAA tournament Tuesday night at home. Here she scored three of her 12 points over Monticello’s Katie Fisette.

Lindsay, Bulldogs Crush Magic In Quarterfinal Game, 68 46

“Poof”, no more Magic. The Becker girls basketball team did just what the boys team did last week as they knocked off the Monticello Magic in their first round section playoff game and put an end to their season.

Junior guard Amanda Lindsay scored 16 points to lift the Bulldogs over the Magic at home Tuesday night in the Section 5AAA quarterfinals.

Junior guards Alexa Hanowski and Rachel Vogl each added 12 points for Becker (17-9).

Amber Okerson led Monticello with 12 points.

The Bulldogs came out with speed and quick passing and appeared more focused as they dominated the game from beginning to end. Confidence oozed as the girls’ prevalent size advantage in the middle gave them inside presence and the ability to open up outside shots for the guards.

The Bulldogs took the floor with five girls on the squad being at least six-feet in height while Monticello had zero. Coach Paul Lindsay and his assistants — Brianna Mastey, Reyan Robinson, Heather Fahsl and Scott Gudmundson — capitalized on this discrepancy by rotating Alex Johnson (6’ 2”), Carlee Kobow (6’ 1”), Kalley Anderson (6’ 3”), Madison Kerzman (6’ 2”) and Mackenzie Swanson (6’3”) in and out of the lineup to their advantage.

Becker Scoring: Lindsay 16, Hanowski 12, Rachel Vogl 12,  Carlee Kobow 11, Alex Johnson 8, Whitney Raygor 4, Abbigail Morrell 3 and Hallie Benda 2.

Monticello Scoring: Okerson 12, Brooke Bechtold 10, Melissa Schmitt 10, Katie Fisette 7, Jaelyn Miltz 4, Malory Bourgeois 2, Alex Revenig 1.

With their 17-9 record, the Bulldogs are currently ranked #20 in the state. The team is averaging 47.3 points a game, which gives them a #9 ranking and with a point differential of eight, they are ranked #19 in the state.

Becker plays Delano (15-10) at 8 p.m. Saturday in Buffalo. The Tigers obliterated Rocori Tuesday by a score of 69-32.

Becker is promoting the game as a white out — encouraging all fans to show up in a white shirt to show their support for the team and their hopes of beating Delano in the semifinals.
