The girls softball team fell out of contention for the state title when they lost to Anoka Thursday afternoon, but they were still fighting to gain the third place trophy with a game played Friday morning against Maple Grove (full report on game in next week’s Citizen).
Becker 5, Farmington 4
Lindsey Lorette drove in her sister, Samantha, with the winning run on a single to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 walk-off win Thursday against Farmington in the Class 3A state softball tournament.
Becker was trailing 4-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh when Hailey Fitzpatrick connected for a two-run homer to tie the game 4-4.
Haley Harmon pitched all seven innings to get the win for the Bulldogs (22-2).
Anoka 6, Becker 3
The victory over Farmington advanced Becker to the semifinal game, where they fell to Anoka, 6-3.
Sydney Lamott was 3-for-3 for the Bulldogs in the loss.
Becker had the tying run on deck in the seventh inning but a line-drive double play ended the game.
Anoka had beat Chanhassen, 3-0 earlier in the day and Friday they faced Eastview High School for the championship.
