Hornet tennis team has strong individual performances at Brainerd Tournament

Last Saturday the Hornets travelled north to Brainerd High School to participate in the annual Moose Tournament where they were led by a pair of strong individual performances.

Eleonora Piva went 3-1 on her way to finishing second in the #1 singles flight. She won her first three matches before suffering her first loss of the season to the eventual champion, Anna Sievert of Glencoe-Silver Lake.

In the #3 doubles flight, Lilly Trulock and Tatum White also went 3-1 with a second-place finish. They too started 3-0 before losing in their final match to the eventual flight champions.

Other Hornets winning matches on the day were Sienna McConville, Audrey Guldseth, Amelia Gardner & Grace Knodle, and Emily Shoop & Lexi Kapsner. McConville went 2-2 in the #3 singles flight and the others all won one match out of the #4 singles, #1 doubles, and #2 doubles respectively.

The Big Lake tennis team also travelled to Princeton last Thursday where they fell to the Tigers by a score of 6-1.

The lone victory for the Hornets came from Eleonora Piva in the #1 singles slot. Piva continued her dominant week by posting her second victory in as many tries. After dropping the opening set 3-6, she roared back to win the match by taking the final two sets 6-0 and 6-0.

The Hornets will have a busy week with three competitions in the next five days. First, they will travel to St. Francis this Thursday. After that they will host Roseau, North Branch, and Willmar in a Quad this Saturday before hosting Monticello next Tuesday.
