AUTUMN GRUNEWALD was the top JV bar gymnast Thursday as she scored an 8.6.

Hornet gymnasts continue to roll

The Big Lake varsity gymnasts once again recorded a season high team score of 143.8 in a contest against North Branch Feb. 18.

North Branch finished with a score of 134.8. 

The Hornets improved to 4-1 on the season and moved up to #4 in the state rankings. They also set season highs on balance beam, floor and the uneven bars. 

Vault

The Hornets varsity team started on vault and after hitting all five of their vaults including a stuck front handspring full from Allie Goracke 8.925. Britney Krumrei scored a 9.0 and Lola Visci 9.025. Grace Kluk led the Hornets with her season high score of 9.25. 

Bars

Big Lake kept rolling on bars, scoring their season high 34.95. Lola Visci’s bar routine was incredible and scored her season high 9.55. Grace Kluk finished second with an 8.85. Britney Krumrei 8.55 finished fourth and Sam Merten 8.0 finished fifth.

Beam

The varsity girls showed more confidence than at previous meets on beam and it showed with a new high of 36.475. Britney Krumrei and Autumn Grunewald tied for first and Amber Grunewald finished third. Lola Visci scored 8.925 and placed fifth.

Floor

Big Lake finished with a 36.175 another season high on floor. Britney Krumrei has returned from a back injury to start the season and anchored the Hornets floor lineup with a beautiful 9.5 routine to take first place on the event. Kennadie Ell had her season best performance with a score of 9.1 to finish tied for second. Amber Grunewald 8.925 finished fifth and Allie Goracke 8.65 placed seventh.

All-Around

In the All-Around results, Britney Krumrei took first with a score of 36.25 and Lola Visci placed third 35.3.

Junior Varsity

Big Lake JV scored 133.05 while North Branch did not have enough athletes to qualify for a team

The JV girls also had their best performance so far this season and remained undefeated in the Mississippi 8 Conference. 

JV Vault Top 3

Autumn Grunewald 8.6, Grace Gardner 8.4, Hannah Horvath 8.3.

JV Bars Top 3

Autumn Grunewald 8.4, Kennadie Ell 7.8, Grace McCrone 7.7.

JV Beam Top 3

Grace McCrone 9.05, Sam Merten 8.5, Hannah Horvath and Grace Kluk tied for third with a 8.3.

JV Floor Top 3

Hannah Horvath 8.6, Autumn Grunewald 8.55, Katie Goracke 8.45.

JV All-Around Top 2

Grace McCrone 33.15, Hannah Horvath 32.75

“We are seeing the girls confidence in themselves and each other grow day by day and meet by meet,” said Co-Head Coach Lanny Goldsmith. “It was an incredible night for our athletes, families and coaches.” 

Big Lake’s next meet is against a tough Monticello team, who is ranked #9 in the latest rankings. 

“We will also compete against them at our section 7A meet in March,” said Goldsmith. “So it should be a fun night. Then we finish up our regular season at home vs St. Francis.”
