Hockey Team Takes First Win Of The Season

The Becker Big Lake Eagles varsity hockey team beat Richfield, 7-2, Tuesday after Richfield  scored first in the first period at their invitational. The Eagles Weston Schug scored the first goal for Becker Big Lake  at 12:54 with an assist from Taylor Giving. The first period ended in a 1-1 tie.
 
Adam Schug scored first in the second period at 7:09 with assists from Grant Vickerman and Lyndon Carlson. 
 
The Eagles never looked back as 10 seconds later Brandon Christianson scored with an assist from Vickerman. Nick Stalpes stepped up to score at 9:54. Richfield scored one more goal at 11:13. The second period ended with the score at 4-2.
 
The Eagles dominated the third period. Nick Cencer scored unaided two minutes into play. Weston scored again with an assist from Stalpes at 11:13. Giving sealed the win with a goal at 15:19, thanks to an assist from Alex Doran.
 
Justin Morrow was the goalie leader, stopping 31 of 33 shots on goal.
 
The Eagles did not fare as well in a New Year’s  Eve game versus Windom Area. They lost, 5-1. 
 
Lyndon Carlson scored the Eagles only goal at 10:12 in the first period on a power play with assists from Christianson and Vickerman. 
 
Windom Area scored three times in the first period and once in the second and third. Morrow stopped 28 of 33 shots on goal  The Eagles had 28 shots on goal.
 
The Eagles played the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets Friday at Isanti  Arena. Results from this game to follow next week. They play a Two Rivers Conference game against Legacy Christian Academy Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. Thursday is another conference home game versus St. Paul Highland Park.
