Gymnasts Beat Conference Foe Thursday Night

The Becker Bulldog girls gymnastics team hosted Little Falls Thursday night and came away with a 30+ point win.

Becker, 141.425
Little Falls, 110.025

The girls celebrated parents and senior night Thursday and were still without a few of their stalwart athletes. Montanna Edling is out with an ankle sprain, Kassidy Severson has strained hamstring and Megan Murphy has mono.

Vault Exercise
Becker had four strong vaults to get them started off well in the first rotation.  Lindsay Olsen won the event with a personal best score of 9.4, followed by Hannah Schmidt scoring a 9.35, Miranda O'Brien scoring a 9.1 and Haley Hubbard scoring a 8.9.

Nicole O'Brien gave a good effort but came up just a bit short and ended up with zero points, which allowed Little Falls’ Sarah Stout to capture fifth place(8.25).

Uneven Bars Exercise
“We had a couple of mistakes on bars putting together a decent but not great total on the event,” said Head Coach Jen Harmoning.

Lindsay Olsen scored a personal best (8.7) to win the event.  Haley Olsen turned in a solid routine for an 8.4.  Haley Hubbard had her best bar performance of the season thus far, scoring a season-best 8.05.  Hannah Schmidt took fourth place despite suffering a fall on her upgraded dismount scoring a 7.925.

Marlee Louden took fifth place with a score of 7.65 after having a little bit of trouble during her release move but staying strong and pushing through.

Beam Exercise
Although the team didn't score their best on beam, Harmoning thought the girls gave their best beam performance of the season.

Lindsay Olsen scored a personal best 8.75 to win first place.  Lexi Reichle pushed through a painful back to take second with a score of 8.65.  Hannah Schmidt and Miranda O'Brien tied for third place, scoring 8.5’s and Marlee Louden took the fifth spot scoring a 7.65.

Floor Exercise
Finishing up on floor, the team gave more of their best and were rewarded with good scores and a season-high team total of 37.2 for the event.

First place was shared by Haley Hubbard and Hannah Schmidt with scores of 9.4.  Third place was also shared by Lindsay Olsen and Kylee Pudas with scores of 9.2 (a personal best for Pudas).  Miranda O'Brien also performed a stellar routine that earned her fifth place and a score of 9.025.

All-Around
Lindsay Olsen won the all-around with a personal best score of 36.05.  Hannah Schmidt finished second with a score of 35.175 and Little Falls Flyer Sarah Stout scored a 30.675 to earn third place.

Saturday, the team heads to Melrose for the Class A True Team Championship meet in which the top 10 Class A schools go head-to-head in a team-only competition.  Heading into this meet, Becker is ranked near eighth and their goal is to improve and break into the top five.

“It will be tough this year because there are several teams that are really putting out some huge scores and we are still not full strength, missing three athletes from the line-up,” said Harmoning. “But we are going to just give it our best effort.”
