Girls Track Team Gets In One Meet Before Snow Arrives

The Becker Bulldog girls track team traveled to Princeton last Friday to compete in the Dawn Hurni Invitational (honoring of a former Princeton track athlete who died in a car accident in 1993).

Sixth Place Finish

It was Becker’s first outdoor meet of the season and the Lady Bulldogs finished sixth with two medal winners at this meet.

Hannah Schmidt won first place in the pole vault and tied the meet record in the process with a vault of 9’6”.

“She is really progressing nicely on her vaults and it is exciting to see what her season will bring,” said Head Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy.

Becker’s other medal winner was Madi Kealy, who placed third in the 800 meters (2:37.92).  She ran a solid race and finished tough to hold off the fourth place girl.

In the 100 hurdles, Montanna Edling (fourth- 18.65) and Haley Hubbard (eighth - 19.21) ran well for the first time at this distance this year.
“It is quite a difference to go from 55 M indoor with only five hurdles to 100 M outdoor and 10 hurdles,” said Reimer-Kealy. “They are doing well with their three-step goals and should be able to get them in a few meet.”

Both girls also ran the 300 hurdles along with Aubree Lahr, who was running the hurdles for the first time.   All three girls did well — especially for not being able to work on this group of hurdle markings yet — with Edling placing seventh (53.98), Hubbard ninth (57.62) and Lahr 10th (58.24).

Lexi Michels placed fifth in the 100 meters.  In the 400 meters, Maesyn Thiesen placed fifth (64.77) in her first attempt at this distance. Becker’s other two entrants in the 400 ran well including Renee Tripp (68.27) and Allie Carver (70.15) earning personal best times.

Running the 3200 meter run for the first time was Allie Hendrickson and Tate Spinner.

“This is a tough race that takes some time to learn how to run,” said the head coach.

Hendrickson placed fourth in 13:22.72 and Spinner 10th in 14:12.72. “Both girls ran well for their first time and I see good things ahead for both,” Reimer-Kealy said.

In high jump, Schmidt placed fourth and Deedra Lawrence placed sixth with both girls clearing 4' 10". The top six places all cleared the same height and places were determined by misses.

Long jump had Haley Olsen placing 8th (14'3") just missing her personal record.  In the triple jump, Haley Hubbard earned a personal record of 32' 2-3/4" for fourth place while Montanna Edling placed sixth (31'3").

In the 4x800, Madi Kealy, Siera Knick, Jada Rositas and Mauren Thiesen ran 11:22.25 for fifth place.

In the 4x200, Michels, Schmidt, Maesyn Thiesen and Shannon Sydow ran 1:58.45 for 4th.

In the 4x100, Kassidy Severson, Michaela Manifold, Haley Olsen and Morgan Youngdahl ran 57.8 with a couple shaky hand offs for a seventh place finish.

In the 4x400 relay, Tripp, Kealy, Severson, and Sydow ran tough in an exciting race to place fourth in 4:38.18.

“These relays are a work in progress as we decide who will run where and the girls get used to doing hand offs,” said Reimer Kealy. “Overall we were pleased with our efforts at this meet and are seeing lots of growth.”
