The Becker girls lacrosse team’s season ended with an eventful week.
Playing a first round matchup in the playoffs at Big Lake Monday (Memorial Day) the Bulldogs and had a big win, 16-3. Then, it was on to play state-ranked Elk River in game two of the playoffs Wednesday (May 31) where the Lady Bulldogs lost 19-2 to end any further playoff bids.
Thursday, June 1 the girls wrapped up the season with an end-of-the-year banquet.
First team All-Conference awards were given to Isabella Duncombe, Adi Daluge and Alli Knute. Honorable Mention were Zoe Hanson and Kate Mehelich. Team awards as voted on by the team were MVP was first year goalie, Alli Knute. Most Dedicated went to Kate Mehelich and Most Improved went to sophomore Taylor Hanson.
Many players were named to the Mississippi 8 Academic All Conference Team which is awarded to players with a GPA of 3.7 or higher.
“We love that our athletes remember they are students first,” said Head Coach Anicca Lundeen. The banquet was also a bittersweet time where the team said goodbye to 11 seniors.
“(They) will be greatly missed, not just because of their years of lacrosse experience, their talent but also because of the wonderful teammates they have been and the quality people they are,” said Lundeen.
The graduating seniors are: Addison Daluge, Isabella Duncombe, Alison Hamacher, Zoe Hanson, Alli Knute, Cassie Larson, Emma Mathews, Kate Mehelich, Ava Nieken, Kaejen Tatge and Dru Youngdahl.
“Thank you for all you have given to Becker Lacrosse,” Lundeen said. “The chemistry that this team had off the field was truly amazing.”
Lundeen is sure every one of her players would say they really liked each other.
“And that is not something that happens all the time,” Lundeen said. “We look forward to whatever next year brings with the same coaching staff of Dwight and Mike Lundeen and most importantly a group of girls who grew a ton this year and can’t wait to get even better.”
