The Becker Bulldog boys golf team struggled on the first day of Section 6AA playoffs at Blackberry Golf Course in Sartell Monday and Tuesday. The Bulldogs ended the first day in third place trailing Albany by 10 and Cathedral by 15 strokes.
The Bulldogs rebounded and were the low team on the second day, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the lead Cathedral had after the first day.
Becker ended up finishing second as a team.
The bright spot was Jackson Fluck qualifying as an individual for the state tournament next week at the Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.
“While I am happy for Jackson, I am sad for the rest of the guys,” said Head Coach Dan Olson. “The guys tried their best, but it just was not our time.”
The Bulldogs will lose Adam Schug as their lone senior.
“Adam was a class act and I enjoyed coaching him,” said Olson.
Schug will be heading to the University of Minnesota-Morris to pursue a career in medicine.
“We have a great group of guys coming back,” said the coach excitedly. “Michael (Sogard), Jackson (Fluck), Caleb (Foster), Alex (Stanz) and Brandon (Abrahamson) will be the heart and soul of our team. Cathedral does not lose anyone, so it will be another battle.”
