Five Becker Bulldog wrestlers have advanced to state after participating in the Section 6AA individual tournament at Becker High School Saturday.
One of them, Zack Zimmer, recorded his 100th win in his first match of the day at 160 pounds on his way to taking the first place title.
Josh Lumley (2nd place), Cody Ferris (2nd), Zimmer (1st), Bobby Lee (2nd) and Mason Olson (1st) all move forward to compete at Xcel Energy Center this weekend. It’s a first for Head Coach Matt Aho.
“All of the wrestlers except one placed in the top six in their brackets,” said the proud coach. “Which was quite the accomplishment by the whole team. We had eight wrestlers that placed in the top three in their weight class.”
Aho, whose team finished the regular season at 15-6, was extremely happy with how his athletes performed on such a big stage.
“You could really see how all their hard work and dedication has paid off this weekend,” said Aho. “I saw a lot of heart in our wrestlers. Win or lose, each wrestler gave everything they had and it showed.”
