The 12th annual Dylan’s Hope Charity Golf Tournament was held last Friday at Pebble Creek, and it was an event for the record books with an incredible $67,000 raised.
“Every year it is amazing how deep people go into their pockets to support this cause,” said Dylan’s Hope Executive Director Ryan Obermoller. “We keep thinking ‘how do we surpass the year before’... and here we did it again.”
A year ago, a then-record $32,500 was generated at the event, meaning this year’s extravaganza more than doubled the previous mark.
The fundraiser is held annually in memory of Dylan Aaseby, a Becker student who died by suicide in February 2013. The money raised goes to a variety of mental health related causes, with most of the funds directed to Becker Public Schools to help provide students with access to mental health practitioners.
This year, 214 golfers participated in the tournament, which includes a variety of hole-in-one opportunities, as well as other games on the course.
The culmination of the affair is the live auction, which draws a huge crowd each year with eager bidders vying for some amazing items. Among the items included on this year’s auction bill were an autographed Toby Keith framed photo, an autographed Hank Williams Jr. guitar, and a phenomenal quilt made by Lynn Hamacher. The grand prize was a framed Flag of Honor, with the red stripes of Old Glory containing the names of all the victims of the Oklahoma City and 9-11 terror attacks. The patriotic themed item brought an incredible $16,500 bid when Troy Henry of IRAY Auctions announced his signature “sold” call. Troy is a fourth generation auctioneer who volunteered his time, along with his father, Ray, to give the auction the look and feel of a professional production.
“We would like to once again thank Colonel Ray and his son Troy from IRAY Auctions for putting on such a great auction,” Obermoller said. “We would also like to thank the golfers, all the sponsors, Pebble Creek, and the Becker community for making it a great event.”
