Bulldogs throttle Pioneers, 51-0 for Lundeen’s 400th

The Becker Bulldog football team paid homage to their one-and-only coach, Dwight Lundeen by pounding the Hill-Murray Pioneers, 51-0 last Thursday night in Becker.

It was Lundeen’s 400th career win.

After the game, the football program also paid homage to the entire history of the football program after inviting every player and every coach who has ever been a part of the program to midfield for a celebration.

At Thursday’s game at Lundeen Stadium, this year’s 2024-25 Bulldog team took to the field and absolutely destroyed the Pioneers, who last year finished with an 8-3 record.

Becker’s Sawyer Brown, a junior, had a career game as he accounted for two TDs and a two-point conversion while quarterbacking the team for most of the game. He finished his QB duties going 11-for-11 for 208 yards and two TDs including a bomb to Carter Reckelberg in the second quarter. He also recorded a safety early in the matchup.

Becker got on the scoreboard early in the game when a long drive evolved into a one-yard plunge from Cody Klatt for the first score. A successful two-point conversion put the score at 8-0 as the crowd started to stir.

Later in the first, Brown and Recelberg connected on that 63-yard missle to put the home team up by two scores at 14-0.

In the second quarter, the Bulldogs put the pedal to the metal scoring three touchdowns along with Brown’s safety. The first score came on another Klatt TD, this time from two-yeards out. After the safety, Owen Angell scored from 11 yards out and that was followed by Reckelberg’s second TD catch from Brown from 28 yards out.

The score at halftime was Becker 38, Hill-Murray 0.

Following the halftime festivities, the Bulldogs picked right back up from where they left off as they tallied two more TDs in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. The boys kept the train rolling when Mitchell Soltau scored from  20 yards out on a nice pass from backup QB, Kaden Nicolas. A short while later, Isaac Daluge put the icing on the cake with an 82-yard punt return for a TD. On the play, Brown picked up the rolling ball around the 20-yard line and handed it off to the reversing Daluge, who was already at full speed and had a train of blockers.

On defense, Senior Johnathon Boecker had two sacks in the game and Landen Kujawa led all defenders with four tackles and four assists.

Angell led all rushers with 121 yards on 10 carries and one TD. Kujawa had 29 yards gained on two carries including a long, 25-yarder.

Several dozen alumni came to the game and were honored after the game with a giant banner commemorating the 400 career wins.
