Bulldog Roundup

The Becker Volleyball team went 1-3 in action last week, including a 0-3 loss at North Branch in the team’s Mississippi 8 opener before falling to Annandale (0-3) in the Bulldogs’ home opener.

Last Saturday, the team hosted its annual Tournament of Roses event and came away with a record of 1-2.

Becker fell 0-2 to both St. Louis Park and Holy Family before coming back to claim a 2-0 win over Eden Valley Watkins in the team’s final match of the day.  In that win, the Bulldogs dominated the Eagles, winning 25-15 and 25-8.

Tuesday night, Becker swept St. Francis, 3-0, including an intense final game score of 15-13.

“Our coaches and student-athletes have been working on increasing the intensity in practices this season to be as game-like as possible with the goal of being better-prepared to face each opponent throughout the season and having the energy and fitness required to overcome the exhausting rallies and long matches,” Coach Jess Vealetzek said. “We have been more focused on becoming stronger in terms of offensive execution while maintaining the solid defense required to do so. Each coach has continued to see great strides with their teams and we look forward to the remainder of the season and everything we will be able to accomplish together.”

The Bulldog Tennis team lost to a very good St. Francis team, 1-6 in Mississippi8 action.

Becker was swept in the individual matches, but picked up a win at #3 doubles as Olivia Nieken and Chloe Spear teamed up for a 6-2, 7-6 (2) win over their opponents.

Tuesday night, the team picked up a win over North Branch, 7-0. Lauren Croal, Lily Anderson, Payton Enerson and Ava Duncombe swept the singles’ matches for Becker, while the teams of Madi Bass/Ali Groskreutz and Hannah Hyttsten/Faith Bass were also victorious.  Spear and Nieken again teamed up for the win.  Becker then fell 3-4 in the nightcap to Thief River Falls.

Monday night the Becker Boys Soccer team picked up a nifty 4-1 win over the Chisago Lakes Wildcats to even the Bulldogs’ season record at 3-3.  The win put Becker at 1-1 in the Mississippi 8 Conference and in a logjam with three other teams who are all tied for fourth place in the standings.
