Bulldog Girls Finish Regular Season Strong

The Becker Bulldog girls basktball team finished up its regular season last Thursday with a great showing against an undefeated Monticello team that came into the game with a 25-0 record.  A strong second half saw the Bulldogs put a scare into the Magic before Becker fell 67-60 in the game.

Becker fell behind 34-22 at halftime but came out in the second half and showed what kind of character they have as they outscored the Magic 38-33 in the final stanza.

Andie Changamire led the scoring effort for Becker with 15 points, while sister Adele had 15 and 10 boards for a double-double.  Eilidh Mrnak was close behind with 14 points, while Tess Brown had six points and Lauren Croal added five to go along with five assists.

With the loss, Becker ended the regular season with a 15-11 overall record and 13-3 in the Mississippi 8 Conference.  Becker received the #3 seed in the section and faced off against #6 Fridley in a Thursday night matchup in Becker.

Overall, Baird’s squad is extremely young and he was pleased with their overall performance as they headed into the playoffs.

A review of the regular season stats shows that Andie Changamire, just an eighth grader, was the leading scorer at 18.9 points per game to go along with 5.7 rebounds.  Baird noted that she already has the school record for points in a game and “continues to improve exponentially.”

Adele Changamire was close behind with 14 points and six rebounds per game, drawing praise from Baird.

Baird also sang the praises of Josie Reckelberg, who led the team in assists and provided defense on the opponents’ best player while maintaining an amazing 3:1 assist to turnover ratio.

Tess Brown earned her coaches respect for leading the conference in steals for all post players and protecting the rim, while Senior Lauren Croal was cited for being an excellent help defensive player, as she led the team in blocks and was tied for the top plus/minus on the team at +9.7.

Baird credited Eilidh Mrnak for being a spark plug off the bench and her three-point shooting, while Juliana Stach was cited for her team leading VPS efficiency, which monitors a player’s positive production to the team.
