Bulldog boys track starts strong

On Thursday, March 28th, the Becker boys track and field team competed in a four team meet with Cambridge-Isanti, Zimmerman, and Princeton.  Team scores were C-I (116), Becker (39), Princeton (30), and Zimmerman (27).  

“We competed shorthanded as it was Spring Break and we had only about one-third of our team present,” said Coach Paul Schmidt.

Finishing in first place for the Bulldogs were Tanner Felton in the 800 with a time of 2:08 and Parker Spindler in the 1600 with a time of 4:42.82.  Tarver Schendzielos also took first in the long jump with a leap of 19’ 4”.

Other strong finishes were put forth by Zac Halvorson, who was second in the shot put with a toss of 40’ 3.5”, Isiah Boyer who was third in the 400 with a time of 56.65, and Brandt Hemmelgarn who took fourth in the 1600 with a time of 5:11.  Schendzielos also took second place in the Triple jump at 35’ 11.5” and Andrew Fisher took fourth with a leap of 34’5”.

The Bulldogs return to action with a full squad on April 2 as they host a five team indoor meet.

Last week, the team picked up a win in a five team meet, scoring 92 points to the second place Hornets’ 70.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs were Juniors Carter Reckelberg and Owen Angell.   Carter won the long jump ( 21’ 6.25”), the 55 (6.64), and the 200 ( 23.37). Angell won the Pole vault (13’), the 55 hurdles ( 8.02) and took third in the high jump (5’8”).  

“Owen also anchored the winning 4x200 team to a win (1:38.36) along with Isiah Boyer, Mitchell Soltau, and Tarver Schendzielos,” said Schmidt.  “Parker Spindler took first for the us in the 1600 with a time of 4:54.97.”

Spindler also helped the 4x800 team take second place with a 9:06 time, along with team members Hudson St. Denis, Brandt Hemmelgarn, and Alex Kinney. Isiah Boyer
