Brown Ousted At State Tennis

Dawson Brown’s run for a state title in tennis came to crashing halt Thursday as he lost to Shakopee sophomore Jackson Allen in straight sets.

Brown emerged from the first round of the Class AA singles tournament at the Baseline Tennis Center at the University of Minnesota with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mounds View junior Jake Trondson at 8 a.m. Thursday morning. Four hours later, he faced the #3-seeded Allen with a chance to make the semifinals.

Allen played flawless against Brown and won easily 6-0, 6-1. Allen moved on to play the #2 seed in Forest Lake senior Toby Boyer at 8 a.m.  Friday.

Allen, who was ranked fourth in the state in individual play before the season began, had to skip last year’s section tournament due to a back injury.

Brown had an exceptional season, garnering a 26-3 record as the team’s #1 singles player under Head Coach Hokan Bengtson.

“Dawson is the most decorated player in Becker tennis history,” said Bengtson. “He will be missed for his humble leadership and his ability to be such a fierce competitor.  He is leaving some big shoes to fill for the younger guys on our team.  I am blessed to have been able to work with him for the past six years.”

Brown finished his varsity record at 138-25.
