Big Lake girls win 2

The Hornet girls basketball team went 2-1 last week by beating Legacy Christian and St. Francis before losing to Monticello Tuesday night.

In a nonconference matchup last Thursday, the team took down the Legacy Christian Academy Lions 53-43. Rylie Sternquist was the leading scorer with 24 points. Ashley Fitzgibbons added 10, Shiloh Elliot seven, and Greta Layton six.

On Friday, the Hornets raced out to an eight-point halftime lead and held on to beat St. Francis 56-48. Sternquist was once again the leading scorer with 24 followed by Fitzgibbons and Alexis Moen with 10.

The team got behind early on Tuesday against Monticello, and the Magic’s 16-point halftime lead was too much to overcome for the Hornets as they lost 67-44. Sternquist scored 16, Layton eight, Fitzgibbons seven, and Mya Knapp six.

This week the team has two out of conference matchups. They travel to Spectrum on Thursday and host Duluth Denfeld Saturday. Then next Tuesday the team travels to Becker.
