Big Lake boys win 2 more soccer games

The Big Lake boys soccer team won two more games over the past 10 days and now has four wins for the season. That’s two more than they had all last year.

Last Thursday, the Hornets showed why they are a team to be reckoned with, beating Princeton, 3-0. The Tigers entered the game without a loss in the conference.

The game was a defensive standoff in the first half and ended without a score. But Big Lake put on the pressure after the break and found the net.

Zach Cypull, Tamren Acosta and Charly Dongmo each scored a goal.  Acosta, Austin Brethorst and Landon Priest each had an assist in the game. Tyler Huver had four saves in goal.

Three days earlier, Big Lake had a dominant performance against Spectrum, winning 6-0 on the road.

Will Priest scored two goals. Zack Medlock, Andrew Lange, Acosta and Cypull each had a goal. Cypull assisted on two goals. Acosta, Dongmo and Landon Priest each had an assist. Huver had four saves in net.

Sept. 14, the Hornets went up against the conference leader, Monticello, and played well in a 4-2 losing effort.

The Magic scored twice in the first half. But the Hornets picked up the pace after the break. Dongmo scored a goal and assisted on a goal by Lange. But it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit.

Last Saturday the Hornets lost, 3-1 to St. Cloud Apollo at home. The game was scoreless at the half, but the Eagles capitalized on their chances and put three in the net. Acosta had Big Lake’s only goal, unassisted.

The Hornets are 4-5 on the season and are 3-2 in the conference.

They played Becker Thursday and St. Francis Friday, results to follow next week. They host Chisago Lakes 7 p.m. Monday
