Becker throttles Delano, 47-7

The Becker Bulldog football team is off to a great start to 2021 as they won their second game of the year over a staunch rival.

The Tigers entered last Friday’s game in Becker with a 1-1 record. Becker, after knocking off #5-ranked Rocori in its season opener, was at 1-0.

The Bulldogs scored three times in the opening quarter, once in the second, twice in the third and once in the fourth to capture the easy win. Delano scored a late TD to avoid the shutout.

Ryan Bengtson, Carter Callahan and Landen Goebel were the main stars on offense for the home team. Bengtson was eight-for-10 passing for 128 yards and had two scores. Callahan had three TDs on the ground and accumulated 48 yards on 10 carries. Goebel had four catches for 72 yards including the game’s opening score from 37 yards out to put the Bulldogs up 7-0.

On Becker’s second possession of the first, Bengtson found Alex Weiss from 15 yards out to make it 13-0. The XP was no good, but as the game played out, that didn’t much matter.

Callahan got the first of his three TDs late in the first quarter as he crossed the goal line from one yard out. He made it two TDs in a row in the second from two yards out to extend Becker’s lead to 27-0. In the third, Callahan made it three TDs in a row as he rambled from seven yards out to put the Bulldogs up 34-0.

Bengtson would make paydirt late in the third as he snuck the ball into the end zone from one yard out to make it 41-0. Isaiah Gardner would cap the Bulldog scoring in the fourth with a one yard run to make it 47-0 before Delano dented the scoreboard late.

Becker ran 63 plays compared to 44 for the Tigers. Becker amassed 322 yards to Delano’s 110. The Bulldogs had 15 first downs to Delano’s seven.

Goebel was the king of defense too as he collected three tackles with two being for loss. Callahan had two tackles and one assist and Ian Barau had two tackles, one sack and two tackles for loss. Dailen Adu-Gyamfi, Julius Nyakundi and Nolan Muellner all had one interception apiece.

Zach Bengtson was five-of-six on extra points for five points.
