Becker girls track wins opener

The Becker girls track team overcame some key absences to win their indoor home meet opener last Thursday, edging Cambridge-Isanti 74.5 to 74 for the title.

“We were happy with our performances from the girls who participated even though we were missing a few kids for Spring Break,” Coach Trish Reimer-Kealy said.

The Bulldogs earned five first place finishes, five second place results and had another six events where they took third.

The 4x800 relay team of Katelyn Brower, Andie Changamire, Adele Changamire and Alea Briggs took first with a time of 10:13.58, while Brower won the 400, and Adele won the 800.

Other top finishes included: Lauren Woelfel in the Pole Vault (10’) and the 4x200 relay team of Raelee Lyon, Kylee Morton, Salayna Allen and Josie Reckelberg.

Finishing in second were Reckelberg (Long Jump and the 200), Briggs (1600), Avery Boyer (400) and Ella Tschida (Shot Put).

Bella Kuschel took third in the High Jump, while additional bronze winners included Woelfel (55 hurdles), Sylvia Stoeckel (400) Morton (200), Sadie Massey (Shot Put),  and the 4x400 relay team of Brower, Andie Changamire, Lyon and Alyssa Brower.

“We are happy to see even scoring from both the field events and the running events which is key to racking up team scores,” Reimer-Kealy added.  “Our veteran team members did a great job helping the newer kids get their feet wet and all competed well.  It should be a fun season!”

Reimer-Kealy also noted the coaches and team’s appreciation for the workers who put forth the effort and showed up during Spring Break.

Becker hosted another meet Tuesday April 2 at the Becker Field House with four teams attending.
