BECKER’S MICHAEL VELDMAN scored 23 of Becker’s 42 points Tuesday, but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs’ season came to an end in the Section 5AAA tournament against Orono, 67-42.

The Becker Bulldogs’ 2013-14 basketball season came to an end in the first round of playoffs earlier this week.

Becker’s Michael Veldman scored more than half of the Bulldogs’ points (23) Tuesday night, but Orono prevailed in the first round of the Section 5AAA tournament at home.
 
Orono had 10 players make the scoring sheet, including 13 points from Cole Hennings, 10 points from Chandler Jacoby and 10 points from Sam Sustacek to spark the win.
 
Becker had just five players score points with Andrew Davalos being the second leading scorer with seven.
 
Veldman went nine-of-16 from the floor including one three-pointer and also had two assists and four rebounds in the loss. The Bulldogs shot just 40% from the field while Orono went 27-of-58 for a percentage of  47%.
 
Becker Scoring: Veldman 23, Davalos 7, Josh Nohner 4, Erik Tungland 4 and Cole Anderson 4.
 
Orono Scoring: Hennings 13, Jacoby 10, Sustacek 10, Chandler Perry 9, Andy Ten Eyck 8, Ellis Hammer 7, Ethan Larson 4, Max Karon 2, Patrick Codute 2 and Ben Tunham 2.
 
“The boys battled, but Orono is a solid team that made more plays than we did,” said Head Coach Josh Ihrke. “It was a fun season.” 
 
Becker finished the season with a record of 10-16 and were 6-7 in the Granite Ridge Conference under first-year Head Coach Ihrke.
