Baseball Team Advances In Sections With Two Big Wins

The Becker Bulldog boys baseball team stayed alive in the Section 8AAA playoffs with two wins in three games this past week.

Becker 6, Tech 5

St. Cloud Tech came within a run of erasing a six-run deficit, but fell short in the top of the seventh inning Thursday on the road.

Becker led 6-0 after five innings and held on to stay alive in the losers bracket.

Andrew Stanger went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Casey Vesledahl pitched the first six innings to get the victory for the Bulldogs (12-10).

Vesledahl allowed seven hits but the Becker defense turned three double plays.

The Bulldogs will play the Bemidji/Alexandria loser at 11 a.m. Monday at the Municipal Athletic Complex.

Logan Aleshire went 2-for-3 for the Tigers. Justin Mohs held Becker without a hit in the last three innings.

STMA 17, Becker 5

In the second game of a Monday doubleheader, Becker faced a very tough St. Michael team who finished the regular season 14-5 in the Mississippi 8 Blue Conference.

The game was played in St. Michael.

Tyler Berg led the way for STMA Monday afternoon, a game that was delayed two hours due to wind, rain and cold that settled into the area  around the lunch hour. The Knights provided plenty of fireworks, as Berg launched a three-run homer and pitched a complete game to earn the win.

Becker jumped out to an early lead when they scored in the top of the first inning to lead 1-0. Pitchers John Mann, Jake Fobbe and Andrew Stanger gave up 17 runs (12 earned), 11 hits, 11 walks while striking out zero. Stanger took the loss.

Eric Blomgren was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Clayton Gallus was 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Becker finished with 10 hits, five runs and one walk.

Becker 3, Monticello 0

The Bulldogs played the first game of the day Monday in St. Michael against Monticello and came away with an impressive, 3-0 shutout win.
