Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, April 10 at Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church, Becker for William P. Gavin, 90 of Becker who passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital on Monday. Rev. Eugene Doyle officiated and burial will be in the parish cemetery with full military honors.
William Patrick Gavin was born Oct. 28, 1924 in Becker to Thomas and Julia (Smith) Gavin. He was united in marriage to Flora Haberman on October 25, 1949 in Becker.
Bill lived in Becker for most of his life, prior to that, he lived in St. Cloud for 20 years. He was a foreman for Royal Tire for 44 years and was a member of Mary of the Visitation Catholic Church in Becker. Bill enjoyed vegetable gardening, hunting, fishing and trips to the casino. He also enjoyed spending time with his family especially around holidays. Bill was optimistic, loyal, caring, and enjoyed visiting with others. In later years he was always up for playing cards, especially 500.
Survivors include his loving wife, Flora of Becker; daughters and sons, Arlene (Jerry) Blad of Becker, Harvey (Anita) of Clear Lake, Betty Schwarzkopf of Sauk Rapids, Jerry (Betty Ann) of Milaca, Patty (Fred) Johnson of Becker and Connie (Richard) Danielson of Becker; sister, Mary (Wilfred) Hentges of Cold Spring; sister-in-law, Dolores Gavin of Sartell; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rose Friedrich and Jeanette Diedrich; brothers, Arthur and Frank; and great grandson, Joey Blad.
