It is with great sorrow that we say goodbye to Mal Loren Goenner who died unexpectedly Friday on his farm. His caring ways and fun-loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

 

Mass of Christian Burial was Wed., Oct. 14, 2015 at St. Marcus Catholic Church in Clear Lake. Rev. Virgil Helmin officiated and burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.

 

 Mal was one of six children born to Clarence and Lucinda (Kramer) Goenner on July 1st, 1942. On April 20th, 1963 he was wed to his beautiful wife Kathy Athman in Luxemburg who he has loved for over 52 years. Mal lived in the Clear Lake area all of his life, working as a dedicated farmer, which he enjoyed.  He was a member of St. Marcus Catholic Church in Clear Lake where he served as a trustee. He was a representative of the Sherburne County Planning Committee from 1979 – 1996, and was also devoted to organizations including the Clear Lake Lions, and the Knights of Columbus.

 

Mal was a family man, and spent much of his time surrounding himself with those he loved. He had a passion for traveling and a love of dancing and barhopping. Mal spent much time surrounded by nature, especially in the winter when he could be out skiing on the slopes. Although mischievous at times, his humor could fill a room with warmth. Mal was a caring father and grandfather with a giving heart and his memory will be cherished forever.

 

 He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Clear Lake; children, Julie (Randy) Titchner of Apple Valley, Colleen (Steven) Scherber of St. Michael, Brian Goenner of Clear Lake; 9 grandchildren, Jordan, Nolan, Kathryn, Brady, Clayton, Coleman, Bryce, Derek, and Aiden; brothers, Douglas (Delrose), Les (Doris),  Glenn (Patricia), and Paul (Mary Lynne) Goenner, all of Clear Lake; and sister, Carol (Abe) Maier of Clearwater. Mal is preceded in death by his parents.

 

In honor of the family’s wishes, memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
