Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Sun., Dec. 27 at Grace Lutheran Church in Becker for Laverne “Vern” A. Burns, age 87, a devoted, loving husband, father and grandfather, a compassionate friend, and in later life became an obedient follower of God, who passed away Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 at Shepherd of Grace Senior Living in Becker. Pastor Dave Johnson will officiate and burial will be at Halvorson Cemetery in Menomonie, WI. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Becker.

 

Vern was born May 31, 1928 in Sigel, WI to Lawrence & Sophie (Wisner) Burns. He  served his country in the U.S. Air Force during WW II. Vern married Marlys Thompson on Aug. 11, 1948 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie, WI and was very devoted to his wife for over 67 years. He received his Masters in Industrial Arts and was a teacher in Industrial Arts. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Buffalo. He had lived in Menomonie, WI, Annandale and most recently in Becker. He became very compassionate through the years and had a great love for God. Vern enjoyed gardening, golfing, woodworking and sharpening tools in retirement. He was very gifted and spiritual.

 

Survivors include his wife, Marlys of Becker; children, Sue (Gary) Christian of Hudson, WI, Linda (Bryan Tungland) Christianson of Becker, Bruce (Shelly) Burns of Annandale, and Karen (Mike) Benson of Maple Grove; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Vern was preceded in death by his parents; son, Steve; brothers, Lawrence, Morris and Edward; and sister, Jeanette Bordini.

 

Memorials are preferred to Alzheimer’s Association.
