Train Hits, Kills Man North Of Clear Lake

A Sartell man is dead after crashing his car into a power pole, then lying down on railroad tracks before being hit by a train near Clear Lake.

Several agencies were called out to the intersection of Hwy. 10 and 42nd St. SE around 2:15 p.m. Tuesday near Cable. The Sherburne County Sheriff's Office says the man drove a vehicle into a power pole near that intersection, exited the car and went onto the train tracks and laid down where he was hit.

The man was later identified as 35-year-old Matthew Alan Delong of Sartell. Delong is a graduate of Sauk Rapids HS (2001) and worked as a manager at Northland Choice for many years and most recently  was operations manager at Barrett Ag.

The train/pedestrian crash caused delays as Hwy. 10 was shut down in both directions. About 6:50 p.m. the lanes had reopened.
