Sherburne County 4-H is hosting a Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) workshop Saturday (May 10) from 9 a.m. until noon at the Government Center. The STEM workshop will have six different programs:
LEGO Robotics - Learn how to build a LEGO robot using the Mindstorms Lego kit and then learn how to program it. (90 minute session).
Bridge Building/ Testing, Bridge Builder - For those who constructed their bridges at a previous STEM project night and new participants as well. If you have already constructed your bridge, you will have a chance to test it. If you haven’t yet constructed your bridge, you will have the chance to use the bridge builder program to design your bridge and begin to construct it. (45 minute session).
• For youth who have already constructed a rocket at past events, we will have a launch at noon, so make sure to bring your rocket along!
Plant Science Project for Mother’s Day - Learn about how plants grow from seed, pollination, and even plant a flower to take home and give to Mom on her special day! 45 minute session
Simple Machines - Build a marshmallow catapult that you can really use without getting in trouble! In this fun session we’ll learn about simple machines and build our own catapult to take home! (45 minute session).
Tissue Paper Hot Air Balloon - Begin the process of creating your own tissue paper hot air balloon. You’ll learn how to create it, and then get all the supplies you need to finish it at home! We’ll also launch some of the balloons we’ve already constructed! (45 minute session).
Science of Water - Ever wonder why a lava lamp works? How come water and oil don’t mix? In this super fun session we’ll answer those questions and more! Create your own lava lamp to take home! (45 minute session).
Brain Games - A University of MN Brain Sciences Center scientist will be on hand with a real human brain! Come and learn more about how the brain works! Through fun interactive activities and demonstrations, you will get a deeper understanding of what is going on inside your noggin. Learn about brain activity and optical illusions. You may even get to touch a human brain! (45 minute session).

Cost per youth: $10 (scholarships are available for Sherburne County 4-H youth, please see the form below under "downloads" for more information)
We will have rockets, bridge and LED kits for sale at the event for take home projects.
