Sherburne County Candidate Profiles

Two candidates are running for Sherburne County Commissioner, district three.

Tim Dolan

Tim Dolan attended SCSU majoring in business and finance, and he has served as a Sherburne County Commissioner since 2016. He and the love of his life, Annie, have two kids, Brooklyn and Gavin and a yellow lab, Gravy. Dolan is also Chief Strategist at Decklan Group.

Community Engagement: Without transparency, as citizens we lose our ability to control our government. In my first term, I’ve helped bring county meetings to live video with archives accessible 24/7, experimented with meeting times to encourage attendance, worked hard to increase city and township communication and collaborative meetings, launched a 24/7 interactive window into the county finance and budgeting process, and will soon be the first county in the nation to launch a new AI/ML powered government transparency application. I believe it should be the goal of local government to engage with as many folks as we can, as often as we can, where they are.

Taxes: We have lowered your Sherburne County Property Tax Rate more than 7% since I was elected. We even completely eliminated the Regional Rail Levy. As our community continues to grow at such a rapid pace, and as the state and federal government continue to pass laws that burden local government, the demand on local government services naturally grows. There is no escaping that our local government costs will continue to increase due to these factors. That doesn’t mean we can’t lower our tax rate.

Values: The division and hostility in our society right now is no secret. We all see it every day. My goal as commissioner is to continue keeping state and national politics out of our local government. We are all frustrated by what we see in St. Paul and D.C. – local government is the last place where all our votes count, I want to keep it that way. I was elected to serve the people, not a political party.

Anne Kostrzewski

Anne Kostrzewski is running for Sherburne County Commissioner. She works as a controller at a commercial construction company, and attended Anoka Ramsey Community College. She has experience as a house and state endorsing delegate, a region leader for House District 15B, and a committee member of Congressional District 6.

Energy: I will focus on an “all the above” approach to power generation and will work to ensure Sherburne County families and businesses have access to affordable and RELIABLE energy. I will not endorse a duplication of California’s failed energy policies that are looming in our periphery.

Taxes: I will protect Sherburne County residents from additional taxation such as the Wheelage tax, sales tax, and more importantly the New Green Deal tax being proposed.

Funding: I will work with State elected officials to get transportation funding for Sherburne County. We will get it done. I will fight to replace the soon-to-be lost revenue from Sherco’s premature closure. I will find ways to fund the Becker Industrial Park to offset the current proposed legislation.

Values: Although not a prerequisite for the Commissioners seat, I am vigorous with conservative values and will take into account that we are a Constitutional Republic when making decisions that impact you and your tax dollars.
