Editor’s Note: Nyberg was found deceased Monday in Isanti County.
Last week, the Sherburne and Kanabec County Sheriffs’ Offices called on the public to help locate a missing elderly female.
Andrea “Andy” Elizabeth Nyberg, an Alzheimer’s patient, left a residence in Mora on Oct. 23 driving a red 2004 Buick LeSabre.
Monday, Oct. 26, the Isanti County Emergency Communications Dept. received a call from a citizen who said they could see a red car in a corn field off Jamestown St. and 343rd Ave. NE in Cambridge Twp.
Upon arrival, deputies said they had a hard time locating the vehicle as the car had driven off a curve and deep into a corn field. Once the vehicle was located, they approached the car and found it occupied by a female. They checked and found that she was deceased.
The plate on the vehicle matched that of the description provided from the missing report from Kanabec County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were able to identify the occupant as Andrea “Andy” Nyberg. Notification was then made to the Kanabec and Sherburne County Sheriff’s Offices to notify the family.
Andrea “Andy” Elizabeth Nyberg was 80 years old and a resident of the Elk River area. She was last seen Oct. 23 wearing an aqua green jacket and black jeans and was described as being a white female, 5 feet 2 inches and weighing 132 pounds, with blue eyes and white hair.
Her family reported to officials that Nyberg suffered from dementia and had been missing since Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Locals and volunteers conducted a search Sunday that started at the Princeton Free Church. About 40 cars with people in them went out looking without success.
Another search was conducted Monday morning.
The matter remains under investigation by the Kanabec and Isanti County Sheriff’s Offices and Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office. Assisting at the scene were the Cambridge Police Dept., Cambridge Fire Dept. and Alina EMS.
