The Becker School District is hosting a free "Safe Kids - Parents Awareness" event Thurs., Nov. 3 from 6:30 - 8 p.m. in the district's Performing Arts Center.
The Sherburne County "Families First" group is sponsoring this event in Becker and other surrounding school districts.
Informational sessions on child safety will be presented by experts in the field.
The discussion topics are geared toward parents of students in fifth grade and above, however, any interested community members are welcome to attend. Experts in the areas of internet safety, chemical use, mental health, and human trafficking will be on hand to discuss these topics.
There will also be several displays including a "Hidden in Plain Sight" exhibit, featuring a mock teenagers bedroom with items laying around that could indicate a teen engaging in risky behaviors.
Educators and other professionals attending this event can acquire 1.5 continuing education credits by simply signing in upon arrival. This will fulfill the mental health professional development requirement for the renewal of a teaching license.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Nov. 3 and refreshments will be available.
