Sherburne County residents are taking full advantage of local recycling events to dispose of their materials.
Last week, the Sherburne County Board approved $9,627.90 in additional reimbursements to nine jurisdictions due to cost overruns during their Recycling Day operations.
The annual City/Township Recycling Day event allows county residents opportunities to properly dispose and recycle certain waste items that are not typically collected by haulers. It keeps the thousands of pounds of materials from ending up in landfills.
This year, several jurisdictions’ total eligible costs exceeded their grant amounts because there were more recyclable materials delivered to the events than in previous years.
The county had set a budget of $97,696 for city and township recycling days and $16,497.14 remained after reimbursement forms were processed for each municipality.
The $9,627.90 will be taken from that balance and distributed as follows: Becker City ($167.45), Becker Twp. ($50.30), Big Lake City ($1,662.62), Blue Hill Twp. ($80.09), Clear Lake Twp. ($463.16), Haven Twp. ($1,827.82), Orrock Twp. ($1,841.52), Santiago Twp. ($711.35).
Solid Waste License
The board approved the issuance of a county Solid Waste License to Rite Away Auto, Inc. in Big Lake, allowing the operation of a processing facility for a one-year term ending Aug. 30, 2025.
The license allows the business to accept motor vehicles, parts of motor vehicles, covered electronic devices and other types of recyclable materials as defined within the county’s Solid Waste Ordinance.
