Oakwood Church is on the Move!

(Editor’s Note: The following article was submitted to the Patriot by Oakwood Church.)

It’s time to move.

Oakwood Community Church has met for the final time on the west end of Becker Furniture World.

OCC began to rent the former warehouse space 13 years ago. Over these years, the fellowship has outgrown that location and the church always intended to have a facility to call their own. Foregoing two previous attempts to purchase property, OCC has purchased space off Hwy. 10 on 1st St. between Bradley Blvd. and Edgewood St. The piece of property became available about three-quarters of a mile to the west of the Furniture World location.

This new facility will provide an increased area inside as well as a large green space for outdoor fun and fellowship. Parking issues that were a challenge at the former facility have now been resolved.

Pastor Gerry and Sarah Bass and staff are anticipating getting settled in their new home soon and renovation of the building has not deterred them from moving forward. The former location has been emptied and demolition/reconstruction of the new location has begun.

As the congregation can’t meet inside just yet, their first gathering on Sun., June 4 will be in the parking lot.

(A throwback to the distance mandates of the Pandemic days — it’ll be a Drive-in Church!)

The members will be pulling out the hay wagons;  and the worship team and podium will be placed up on the bed. If the weather allows, parishioners are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs. Private automobile seating will also be allowed (horn blowing may be substituted for clapping).

The OCC community feels a sense of excitement and they are extending an invitation for all to join them in their new season of adventure.
