Over the last few years, the postal service has seen a definite increase in package delivery since becoming the designated shipper for Amazon.
In the last fiscal year, the Becker post office delivered 28,000 more packages than planned. This holiday season, they expect to deliver even more packages. Therefore, to accommodate the increase in packages, customers can now expect parcel deliveries as early as 7 a.m.
To utilize the cargo capacity of the postal trucks throughout the day — and even after dark by substitute carriers — many packages will be delivered by the postmaster or even a clerk. Often times they will use their own private vehicle to accomplish the deliveries to make sure the customer gets their delivery in a timely manner.
As always, the post office encourages homeowners to make sure their walk ways and steps are cleared of ice and snow. Safety always comes first and therefore postal employees are not required to make a delivery if they deem a delivery unsafe. That goes for ice as well as loose dogs.
To make one’s visit at the post office go smoother, the postmaster asks customers to please make sure one’s items are addressed, packaged properly and all forms are completed before they arrive at the counter.
In addition, the post office will not entertain any requests to retrieve a package unless the customer has received a notification from the letter carrier that there is a package for them at the post office. Today’s technology now informs customers that their package has arrived at the post office and just because the parcel has arrived at the station, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s been processed.
Also, the clerk rarely has the time to search through 200+ packages. Usually after getting the notice, one will receive the piece of mail the next business day.
The local post office and postmaster wishes to thank all patrons for using the postal service this holiday season and year ‘round for ones shipping needs. Happy Holidays!
