Fifth Week
Day 26: “A lot of climbing today,” Mike said. “I climbed about 3,000 feet in four miles and it took a long time.”
Mike said it was quite cool Monday night and he was hoping he could get a decent amount of sleep.
“I have been trying to keep my miles down for my feet.” he said. “They are doing ok. The hills are tough on them though.”
Mike went into town Monday to replenish his food and water. He figures the next town to be able to replenish won’t be for another 80+ miles.
Mike ran into a man named Rueben, a six-year cancer survivor who was gracious enough to give Mike a ride back to the trail.
“It’s amazing how, no matter where you go, who you run into, they all have a connection to cancer,” Mike said. “That is the reason for this journey! So we can keep meeting the survivors!”
Monday evening, Mike also stopped at Jimmy's Springs and then made plans to stay the night there.
“I am hoping to meet up with a new friend of mine, Andrew,” Mike said. “He may be able to head out with me for a couple days. It will be nice to have company for a couple days if everything works out. We are planning to meet maybe Wednesday morning.”
