Day 13: Mike has taken 54,639 steps. Tuesday, he started at over 9,000 feet in elevation and ended at 1,726 feet. He started the day with about three miles up and the other 15+ miles downhill.
“The downhill work was tough on my feet,” he said. “All of my sores and blisters opened back up. I will head into town tomorrow to get them cleaned up and new bandages.”
Mike said he wanted to stop sooner on Tuesday, but said there was really no place to set up his tent.
“At the bottom here there are 10-12 other hikers stopped,” Mike said. “There is a nice spring here at the bottom of this mountain so we were all able to fill up our water.”
Mike says he has seen hundreds and hundreds of lizards.
“They are everywhere!”
Mike posted pictures Monday and Tuesday to his Facebook page that he says “were absolutely beautiful scenery,” where now later this week “this side of the mountain is completely opposite.”
“Still beautiful country, but all desert,” he said.
When Mike went into town Wednesday, he planned to have a good breakfast, take care of his feet and then get on his way again.
“I will post more again later,” he said.
