Middle School Students Honor Their Heroes Last Month

Several Becker Middle School students participated in a community mission trip project last month and one of the projects was hosting a Heroes Dinner at Becker Baptist Church Aug. 13.

The students opened the doors to the church to all EMTs, firemen, police and military men/women and their families and served a free spaghetti dinner as a way of saying “thanks” to the hard-working public servants.

The students also went out and weeded and took care of all the flower beds at the Becker Community Center as well as helping move an elderly family in the community. They also took time out of their busy schedules to strip and paint the deck of an elderly, single woman from the area and hosted a foster parents night out where they did free babysitting for foster parents to give them some respite from the rigors of tending to their foster kids.

Members of the Becker Police Dept. (and their spouses and significant others) and officers from the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Dept. stopped by for the free meal that weekend. Seventeen students and three adult chaperones over saw and served the officers and military men and women and their families.

A cake was also served that read, “Honoring Our Heroes” on the top in red, white and blue icing and a banner and flags adorned the table and the wall.
