Lions Thank Honor Guard

The Clearwater Lions honored the Clearwater-Clear Lake Honor Guard last Thursday with a special dinner by Cutting Edge Catering at the Clearwater Community building.

It was for the community to thank its dedicated members for all they have done and continue to do each year.

Members of the Honor Guard from Clearwater Legion Post 323 are present at numerous events throughout the year.

They honor the veterans from St. Cloud Veterans Hospital at the Clearwater Travel Plaza Patio Party each summer.

They open the Annandale Softball Tournament each year.

They attend the Clearview Elementary School Veterans Program in Clear Lake on Veterans Day.

On Memorial Day, they make the rounds to six local cemeteries, where a list of veterans buried in each cemetery is read. The Honor Guard join in a prayer, then give a 21-gun salute. At the close of their cemetery rounds, they gather for a ceremony at the Clearwater Legion, then give a final 21-gun salute.

Members also perform at between 12 and 20 funerals a year and march in three parades, including the kickoff of the Clearwater Heritage Days Parade in August.
