Kwik Trip is interested in building one of its gas station/convenience stores on the border of Clearwater Twp. and the City of Clearwater on Hwy. 24 just south of I-94.
At Monday’s meeting, Township Clerk Jean Just said she received an email from the City of Clearwater informing the township that Kwik Trip is requesting to annex a parcel in the township to make the property large enough for its store.
“According to our annexation agreement, we agreed that when they were going to annex something they would let us know,” said Supervisor Dan Mol. “And according to the agreement, they would supply services within three years.”
The city portion of the site is currently the home of Gustafson Trailers. The adjacent property that would be annexed is directly south. Together, the lots would total 5.1 acres.
A preliminary sketch plan of the site shows entrances on Co. Rd. 145 and Hwy. 24.
No timeline has been announced for annexation or construction.
Neighborhood Watch
A neighborhood watch group is being formed at Fish Lake.
Resident John Notsch approached the board about installing neighborhood watch signs at three locations around the lake.
“We’ve been working with Wright Co. Sheriff’s Office to set up a neighborhood watch around Fish Lake,” said Notsch. “We’ve been having some theft issues there.”
He said last year there were a number of thefts.
“This spring, somebody stole a gas tank out of a boat that was parked right next to a garage - and a trolling motor,” he said.
He proposed installing three signs on existing Dead End sign posts at Gowan and Grover Ave.; 157th Street and Grover Ave. and 159th Street and Grunwald Ave.
“I wanted to make sure it was okay with the township,” he said.
Members of the board saw no reason not to allow the signs. But Clerk Just said it would be up to the neighborhood watch to maintain the signs or replace them if they were damaged or stolen.
Speed Advisory Signs
The board approved an expenditure of up to $400 to place advisory speed limit signs and reflective barrels on the curve on 140th Street just east of the Clearwater River Bridge.
Supervisor Bill Langenbacher said it was a dangerous curve and even though the township can’t officially reduce the speed, it was legal to advise drivers to slow down. The signs will suggest a speed of 30 mph on the curve.
Variance
The board recommended approval for a setback variance for Robert and Kathy Heig to build a 20’x18’ addition and deck to their home at 17175 Co. Rd. 75.
Robert said the county’s setback requirement is 130’. The addition would bring the building to within 120’ of the road. The Heigs must get final approval from the county.
Liquor License
The board approved a Temporary On-Sale Liquor License for the Clearwater Lions for the Clearwater Rodeo Aug. 19-21.
