Jessie’s Wish more than doubles donation

In just its third year, the nonprofit organization, Jessie’s Wish, more than doubled its donation to Anna Marie’s Alliance this fall.

The organization’s third annual Jessie’s Wish BBQ Cookoff and Benefit was held in September and again featured a rib fest, with seventeen teams all vying for the most votes in order to bring home the “Best Ribs” trophy.

Besides sampling all the great food, attendees could also participate in a number of other events, enjoy live music, and win big prizes.

This year’s event brought in $14,800, more than double last year’s amount of $6,200. Last week representatives from Jessie’s Wish presented the donation to Anna Marie’s Alliance in person, including founder Gary Grant and his granddaughter, Aspyn Ludenia.

“Thank you so much for this wonderful donation,” said a representative of the shelter. “We are honored.”

Jessie’s Wish was begun after Grant’s daughter, Jessica Ludenia, was killed by her abusive boyfriend in 2017. Wanting to help other victims of domestic violence, Grant held the first Jessie’s Wish Benefit the next year, donating the money raised to Anna Marie’s Alliance.

Anna Marie’s is a domestic violence center and private non-profit corporation dedicated to providing safe shelter, support, and referral services for battered women and their children. They also work with the community on systems change and violence prevention in Central Minnesota.

The Alliance has sheltered nearly 16,500 battered women and their children since 1979. Advocates are available 24/7 by calling 320-253-6900. For more information visit www.annamaries.org.
