Honduras man dies in 2-vehicle accident in Elk River

A two-vehicle accident in Elk River last Saturday killed a 32-year-old man from Honduras and sent two others to hospitals.

Kelvin Oriel Gomez-Landeroof Honduras was driving his 2006 Honda Civic southbound on Hwy. 169 in the right lane approaching Sherburne Co. Rd. 38 at around 1:07 p.m. A 2014 Chevy Corvette, driven by 23-year-old Kyle Christopher Florof Zimmerman was southbound Hwy. 169 in the left lane at 65-75 miles per hour. One vehicle lost control while making a lane change into the right lane, striking the front left of the other vehicle with its right rear. The one vehicle ran off-roadway right, striking trees in the roadside.

In Gomez-Landero’s vehicle were passengers Walter Rivera Maradiaga (26 years old) and Luis Fernando Rubio Briceno (26) and they (Maradiaga and Briceno)  survived the accident with non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Mercy Hospital.

In Flors’ vehicle was passenger Lukas George Backlund (21) of Princeton. Both Flor and Backlund were uninjured but both were detected to have alcohol in their systems. All parties were wearing seatbelts.

Agencies assisting at the scene were: Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, North Memorial Ambulance, and Baldwin Fire Department.
