This fall, Great River Faith in Action (GRFIA) has coordinated 23 groups to rake over 30 yards in the area during their annual Rake the Town event.
Over 300 volunteers will take part in raking and serving their communities volunteering over 650 hours of service. They still have a couple more groups going out to serve this week too.
A few of GRFIA’s Rake the Town groups have gone above and beyond this fall. South Santiago Lutheran Church was signed up to help one homeowner, yet they decided to rake her two neighbors as well. The Becker Big Lake High School hockey team and two youth hockey teams also each raked an extra yard.
The Church of St. Luke’s also raked two extra yards because they saw a need.
“Amazing,” said Executive Director Maureen Baty. “What a blessing to be able to spur people of all ages to jump in and serve when they see a need in their community. This simple act of raking is much more than that. It shows our elderly and/or disabled neighbors that they are loved, cared about, and that they matter! This strengthens our communities.”
Great River Faith in Action strives to serve elderly, disabled and struggling families in Sherburne County, and parts of Wright and Mille Lacs Counties. They rely on volunteers to help meet the needs in the community.
