Golf tourney set to repay emergency personnel

From tragedy to sorrow to thankfulness.

It’s hard to forget the unimaginable fire in April of 2019 that took the lives of three people (a father and two toddlers) on Karen Lane in Big Lake — especially learning the results of the investigation that showed the father of the two children (Landon, age 2 and Spencer, age 1) intentionally set the fire that caused their deaths.

The father, Anthony Parker, 36, died the next day, April 13, from injuries he suffered in the fire.

Fortunately, two older children (Averie and Evan, ages 7 and 9) survived the blaze.

The mother, Jessica Parker, was not home at the time of the incident. Rev. Coleen Tully — a minister and a family member of Jessica’s, conducted the funeral services days later.

Big Lake police officers, 14 firefighter stations, five EMS personnel from Monticello, HCMC and Coon Rapids all descended upon the scene in Big Lake that April day as well as fire marshals to conduct investigations.

It was because of all their efforts that the two older siblings survived and mother Jessica has loving arms to wrap around her.

The outpouring of support from these life savers and the community has led the Moffitt/Tully family to host a golf tournament Sept. 12 at Pine Ridge Golf Course in Lincoln/Motley — with proceeds going to the BLPD and BLFD.

The organizers are looking for businesses to donate $100 to sponsor a hole. Donations can be dropped off at the Third Rail in Big Lake or the Randall Municipal. They are also looking for businesses, residents, family to donate raffle prizes AND are looking for golfers in the scramble tournament. Fifty dollars a person or $200 for a team.

Dinner is planned at Cushing Park after the rounds of golf.

One final thing, the organizers are seeking volunteers to sell mulligans, closest to the pin and longest drive chances. Or, to just be there to show support to a family that has gone through the unimaginable.
