PETTING ZOO. The petting zoo and pony rides are a popular stop at the Becker Freedom Days celebration every year.
THE PARADE. Flashing lights, fire trucks and the Honor Guard from Becker American Legion Post 193 are first in line at the annual Freedom Days parade in Becker each year.

“Freedom Days” Festivities Are Almost Here

The annual Freedom Days celebration in Becker will begin on Monday, June 16 with the annual Medallion Hunt, along with a full week of activities that will include food, music, movies, parades, the Freedom Days parade at 11 a.m. on Sat., June 21, and a host of community activities, many centered around the community stage on Hancock St. that is ground zero for the festivities.

Freedom Days Events
Mon., June 12 – Fri., June 20: Medallion Hunt, clues available at the Becker Community Center, on the BCC Facebook site and at www.beckercommunitycenter.com.
 
Tue., June 17: The 7th Annual Ice Cream Social at the Sherburne History Center, 6-8 p.m., featuring music and SHC Exec. Dir. Mike Brubaker having his head shaved to honor a fund-raising challenge.  Also, a Senior Potluck Lunch at Kolbinger Park at 11:30 a.m. with Dahmen and the Beats playing at 12:30 p.m.
 
Wed., June 18:  The Sherburne State Bank will host a Customer Appreciation lunch on the lawn, with ice cream for dessert.
Thurs., June 19:  Seniors can enjoy a movie with popcorn at the Becker Area Senior Center (BASC) in the Becker City Hall.  The recent Bruce Dern hit film Nebraska will be shown at 12:30 p.m. 
 
Fri., June 20: The Jammers will play their eclectic brand of music at the Becker Legion Hall from 6:30-10 p.m.  A Kiddie Parade will happen at the Becker Community Center at 10 a.m., an event for youngsters aged 0 to 12 years, call BCC at 763.200.4271 for info.
 
Sat., June 21:  Freedom Days 5K Fun Run/Walk, professional “chip” timing and finish line video by Gopher State Events, registration 6:30 a.m., race/walk at 7:30 a.m.  Kids Freedom Days 1K Fun Run/Walk, 8:30 a.m. start (kids age 2-6); 8:40 a.m. start (kids 7-12).  Call BCC at 763.200.4271 for info or visit the BCC on-line at www.beckercommunitycenter.com.  Freedom Days parade, 11 a.m., line-up beginning at 10 a.m., call the BCC or visit their website for information and registration.
