Tuesday, at approximately 7:01 p.m., a fire was reported occurring at the Northern Metals Recycling Plant, 12432 Energy Drive SE in Becker.

The fire was discovered by maintenance employees on a conveyor belt in one of the buildings. Employees quickly contained the fire and notified fire personnel from the Becker Fire Dept. The BFD did request mutual aid from the Clear Lake Fire Dept. and Big Lake Fire Dept. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire which did create smoke and steam for a period of time. Fire crews are remaining on scene to monitor and assess the damage.

The State Duty Officer and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) were contacted and advised of the fire and that it was quickly extinguished.

Along with the fire departments listed, the Becker Police Dept. and the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Management also responded for assistance.
